Meet our team
Dr. Tanmoy Mondal completed his PhD at Uppsala University, Sweden. During his PhD, he extensively studied the functions of long-noncoding RNA and made early discoveries in long-noncoding RNA-mediated gene regulation. In his postdoctoral studies, he further explored the mechanistic understanding of long-noncoding RNA-mediated gene regulation and its relevance to cancers, particularly pediatric neuroblastoma.
In 2019, Dr. Mondal established his own research group at Gothenburg University. The group’s primary research focus is on understanding RNA modifications, or epitranscriptomics, in neuroblastoma disease mechanisms. To support this, the lab has developed novel neuroblastoma models and optimized techniques for mapping RNA modifications in neuroblastoma tumors.
Dr. Roshan Vaid is a postdoctoral researcher investigating RNA modifications in neuroblastoma, with a focus on m6A epitranscriptomics and its therapeutic potential. He holds a Master’s in Applied Biotechnology from Uppsala University and a PhD in Molecular Biosciences from Stockholm University. His work combines NGS sequencing, bioinformatics, and functional assays to understand gene regulation in high-risk neuroblastoma.
Dr. Ketan Thombare completed his Masters from Skövde University, and joined the lab in September 2019. He completed his PhD in 2024, focusing on RNA m6A modifications in high-risk neuroblastoma. During his PhD, he developed a trunk neural crest cell (tNCC) model to study MYCN-driven tumor initiation. His expertise spans cell biology, epitranscriptomics, and cancer research.
Dr. Onur Özcan earned his B.Sc. in Bioinformatics and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Koç University. He joined our lab as a postdoctoral researcher after investigating the molecular mechanisms of circadian regulation, with a particular focus on transcriptional control and protein function. In our lab, his research focuses on RNA modifications and their roles in neuroblastoma, integrating computational and molecular approaches to investigate mechanisms of gene regulation in cancer.
Nikki Leijon completed her Master’s degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Gothenburg. She joined the lab in 2025 to carry out her Master’s thesis and is now continuing as a Research Assistant, working on stem cell models, genome editing, and RNA biology in pediatric neuroblastoma.
Augusta Olsson joined the lab as a summer intern while pursuing her Master of Science in Pharmacy at the Gothenburg University. She has a strong interest in RNA modifications, RNA-based therapeutics, and cancer biology. Through her internship, she aims to expand her research experience and contribute to ongoing projects in these areas.
